Sports Medicine Australia (Victorian Branch), with the support of the Victorian Government has developed Sports Injury Tracker, www.sportsinjurytracker.com.au, which is an online system that allows community sports personnel to record, store and analyse injuries that are occurring in their sport.
The Sports Injury Tracker is available to be used by all those involved in community sport throughout Victoria, free of charge.
Please note if you are not from Victoria and are interested in the system please email sportsinjurytracker@vic.sma.org.au so interstate interest can be gauged.
Sports Injury Tracker is based on a standard sports injury recording form which records details such as body part injured, type of injury, how the injury occurred, where the injury occurred, the type of first aid treatment provided and whether and where the injured person was referred.
Note: Even if you don’t use Sports Injury Tracker Smartplay recommends that all clubs complete an injury report form for all injuries.
A copy of this form can be downloaded from the Smartplay here
The on-line Sports Injury Tracker system will allow users from community sports clubs to:
- Streamline data collection and analysis, reducing the paper trail
- Identify injuries occurring
- Assess and plan for key issues that may be risk factors.
At a state level it will provide more information about sports injury trends in Victorian community sporting groups, allowing Smartplay to provide more targeted advice about preventing injuries and managing risk.
“To our knowledge, the online sports injury surveillance project is a world first system that allows community sports personnel to record and analyse their injuries online,” said Sports Medicine Australia (Victorian Branch) Executive Officer, Ms Lynne Sheehan.
“This initiative addresses the concern that previous sports injury surveillance systems were limited to injuries presented and treated in hospital settings, despite sports injuries occurring in a wide range of settings,” said Ms Sheehan.
